Starbucks Coffee Malaysia is proud to announce the opening of Berjaya Starbucks Coffee and HOPE worldwide Penang’s Free Pediatric Clinic. The clinic is situated at Block 11-1-1, Lintang Macallum 2, 10300, Penang and it is opened for consultation/treatment every Tuesday and Fridays from 7pm to 9pm. The clinic was officiated on the 29th May 2005 by the local Member of Parliament; Yang Berhormat Mr. Lee Hack Teik.
The idea of the free pediatric for children was conceived because of the need for specialist medical treatment to the urban poor who currently due to the limited finances of the family are unable to seek proper pediatric treatment or are seeking alternative treatment from traditional medicine practitioners. Due to financial constrains amongst the urban poor, this program will enable young children from urban poor families to seek specialist medical consultation at no cost.
To support the up-keep of the Clinic, partners in Penang had been volunteering their free time at the clinic by assisting with the administrative work, ensuring the maintenance, preparing medicine and various other tasks.
Besides volunteering at the clinic, we had also pledged to raise funds for the clinic; for the past 10 months we had raised RM20, 000 for our clinic by organizing charity movie screenings; Kung Fu Hustle which featured famous Hong Kong actor, Stephen Chow and War of the Worlds, starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning.
In addition, we will be organizing seminars/talks for these urban poor parents and children on parenting, raising children the right way, children’s sickness & their well-being and for the excitement of the children we will also be having story telling sessions, drawing and coloring sessions.
To further enrich these children’s lives, we had also been collecting books and used clothes from our partners throughout Malaysia to donate to the community of the Free Pediatric Clinic.
